Golf enthusiasts are waiting on bated breath as the Match 2023 is just hours away. The highly anticipated event set to take place on June 29 in the Wynn Golf Club, situated within the prestigious Wynn Las Vegas resort will feature two formidable teams. Representing the reigning Super Bowl champions Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce will face the Golden State Warriors, Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson.

While Patrick Mahomes made his debut in the match last summer similar to Stephen Curry, it will be the maiden appearance for both Kelce and Thompson. Riding the wave of his Super Bowl victory, Mahomes is aiming for nothing less than a win in the tournament.

Two Powerhouses Face Each Other

An avid golfer with a handicap of 7.7, Mahomes has been diligently preparing for the 12-hole tournament for a while now. Just recently he participated in the 3rd Annual Aloha golf classic and expressed his determination about the impending Match tournament. He declared confidently before the tournament,

“I’m going to go win this one first, then I’m going to go beat Steph [Curry] and Klay [Thompson] with Travis Kelce.”

In 2022, Mahomes teamed up with Josh Allen only to succumb to Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady. The 27-year-old seems determined to fearlessly take on the Splash brothers.  “I prepared my whole life for this, not the Super Bowl, but this”, professed Mahomes in the official teaser for the Match tournament.

However, Stephen Curry is not going to be an easy opponent for the Chiefs QB. With an impressive handicap of +1 handicap, indicating his proficiency surpasses that of a scratch golfer, Curry is a great golfer in his own right. The NBA star appeared in the Match with Peyton Manning back in 2020 but lost to the mighty pair of Phil Mickelson and Charles Barkley.  With the two champions going head-to-head, it’s promised to be an exciting and captivating match.

The Match 2023; Competition For A Cause

With impressive athletes featuring, the Match tournament has developed into a highly anticipated event over the years. Beyond the competitiveness of the game, it also serves as an opportunity to raise funds for charity. To date, the tournament has been successful in donating over $35 million to various organizations and has contributed more than 27 million meals to Feeding America, a non-profit organization.

The upcoming eighth installment in the series will continue this tradition. The funds generated in the tournament will go to the No Kid Hungry campaign, which aims to put an end to childhood hunger in the U.S.
