Tom Brady appears to have some regrets about doing his Netflix roast special after a few of the quips hurt his children. Brady, 46, was roasted by a number of high-profile figures – including stand-up comedians, celebrities and ex-teammates – in a live Netflix show earlier this month. A lot of the ruthless material contained jokes about his divorce from Gisele Bundchen, 43, after 13 years of marriage, which he has admitted didn’t go down too well back at home.
The seven-time Super Bowl winner, who shares Benjamin and Vivian with the Brazilian supermodel, revealed that some of the quips ‘affected’ his kids during an episode of ‘The Pivot’ with Fred Taylor, Ryan Clark and Channing Crowder. ‘I loved when the jokes were about me. I thought they were so fun,’ he said. ‘I didn’t like the way they affected my kids.
‘It was the bittersweet aspect of when you’re doing something you think is one way and then you realize I wouldn’t do that again because of the way it affected the people I care about the most in the world. ‘It makes you in some ways a better parent going through it because sometimes you’re naïve.’ The former quarterback’s children weren’t the only ones upset with the roast with Bundchen said to be furious about being the source of the relentless taunting.
According to People, Bundchen was left fuming at the jokes about her and Brady’s former marriage during the special, saying she ‘was deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family on Sunday evening’s roast show’. ‘As always, [Bundchen’s] priority is to support her children who were affected by the irresponsible content that was broadcasted,’ the insider went on. Bundchen is said to be less than impressed about her divorce with Brady, and her subsequent new relationship with jiu jitsu trainer Joaquim Valente, being used as the butt of jokes.
One shock quip saw comedian Nikki Glaser referencing Valente’s martial arts prowess, saying: ‘How much would it suck for Tom… omg, just knowing your ex-wife’s new boyfriend could beat your a** while eating hers.’ Brady’s former teammate Drew Bledsoe, who weathered his fair share of digs about the quarterback replacing him in New England, also took aim at the divorce.
‘Obviously buddy, you got really used to not being touched,’ Bledsoe said when referencing Brady’s football career. He then added: ‘Just like the end of the marriage.’ The joke drew a huge gasp from the audience at Kia Forum as an awkward Brady raised his eyebrows and took swigs of two different drinks.
Kevin Hart, who opened the roast, also piled on Brady and Bundchen’s breakup, saying: ‘You sometimes got to f*** your coach,’ the actor said. ‘You know who else f***ed their coach? Gisele. She f***ed that karate man.’ Brady and Bundchen — who share two kids together, son Benjamin, 14, and daughter Vivian, 11 — divorced on October 28, 2022, after 13 years of marriage.
Brady also shares his eldest son Tom, 16, who is a rising high school football star in his own right, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan. Moynahan shared several cryptic social media messages after Brady was roasted for infamously dumping her while she was pregnant with Jack. ‘Loyal people take s**t more personal because they never would’ve did that s**t to you,’ one quote read. She added, ‘so true,’ in the caption.
Glaser obliterated the former Patriots quarterback for breaking up with the actress in 2006. ‘Tom, you’re the best to ever play for too long, you retired then came back then retired, I get it. It’s hard to walk away from something that isn’t your pregnant girlfriend,’ Glaser joked. ‘To be fair, he didn’t know. He just thought she was getting fat.’
Although jokes about Brady’s kids were off-limit, a source told Page Six that Bundchen was still ‘deeply disappointed by the disrespectful portrayal of her family.’ Despite the apparent tension between the Patriots legend and his ex-wife, he penned a moving tribute on Mother’s Day. The legendary signal caller shared a sweet Mother’s Day note, thanking several women in his life for the ‘love’ they’ve shown him.
‘Happy Mothers Day to these kind, caring, compassionate and POWERFUL moms that I’m lucky to have in my life,’ the seven-time Super Bowl champ captioned a series of Instagram snaps Sunday. ‘None of this would be possible without your love,’ he added.
The Sex and the City actress was seen posing in a kitchen alongside her ex-boyfriend and their 16-year-old son, Jack. The next snap featured the supermodel on horseback, next to her son Benjamin, 14, and daughter Vivian, 11, whom she shares with her ex-husband. Others who roasted the NFL legend on Sunday were host Julian Edelman, Rob Gronkowski, Randy Moss and Kim Kardashian.
