Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce got Chiefs coach Andy Reid the perfect Christmas gift for ‘Big Red’

They say it’s the thought that counts.

And when it comes to Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, the man they call ‘Big Red’ is usually only thinking about one thing. Food.  Reid’s love for play-calling is only surpassed by his passion for cheeseburgers, and so there was only one option for the NFL icon’s Christmas present.  Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce presented Reid with his gift in the wake of Kansas City’s 24-10 win over Seattle Seahawks on Christmas Eve last year.  “We took a little poll,” Mahomes told Reid,

“And we got you a little gift,” the Chiefs QB added.

Kelce walked up and presented Reid with the gift. Reid took off the red-and-white Christmas paper, revealing a Nike shoebox.  Inside the box was a big, beautiful cheeseburger.  “May you all get a gift as great as this!” beamed a delighted Reid.  “Cheeseburgers in paradise, baby!” he added.

The Chiefs would go on to win the Super Bowl that season, their third under the leadership of Coach Reid.  Reid’s love of cheeseburgers is almost as renowned as his passion for football.  Two years ago, Reid told NBC Sports’ Peter King: “How great is a good cheeseburger? Listen, there is just something about it. It keeps you grounded, Peter.”

Reid’s record of 269 wins ranks fifth in NFL history and puts him second among active head coaches behind only Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.  Big Red won more games than any coach in the history of the Philadelphia Eagles, leading the franchise to six NFC championship games and one Super Bowl appearance in 14 seasons.

He swapped Philly for Kansas in 2013 and has led the Chiefs to a winning record 10 straight years, including double-digit wins nine times.  The Chiefs have hosted the AFC title game the last five seasons and won two Super Bowls in three tries, including last year’s triumph.  They take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day.
