Amidst all those achievements and triumphs, one cloud that has cast a shadow on Patrick Mahomes‘s name might be his brother Jackson Mahomes. Shortly after the Mahomes family was basking in the Super Bowl victory, the Chiefs‘ QB’s 23-year-old brother was accused of assault of a restaurant owner in Kansas City ultimately leading to his arrest

Jackson was no stranger to controversy as he constantly got into the crosshairs with his TikTok videos and boastful lifestyle. Being in the spotlight 24/7, his brother’s actions inevitably added extra weight for him to bear. However, Mahomes finds ways to deal with the pressures as he offered insights during an interview on dealing with the magnified spotlight that extends beyond the single person.

Patrick Mahomes: Tackling the spotlight

During his appearance at ‘CBC Mornings’, Mahomes acknowledged the spotlight’s impact on everyone associated with the public figure. While he recognized that this close scrutiny was inevitable, the QB stressed the need to communicate it with one’s circle.

“First off, with the people around you explaining that to them, that they have a new spotlight even if they didn’t necessarily want it and then just having great people around you. I have a lot of great people around me and everyone that I kind of have in my circle are people that I truly love.”

“I think if you have those relationships, continue to better each other that’s how you come out and be great people. And so that’s what I try to explain to everyone that’s around me and I try to keep those great people around me,” Mahomes said.  Mahomes has always chosen to keep things in his circle as he refused to make any public statements on Jackson’s legal troubles up until now.

Mahomes remains tight-lipped

While the accusatory allegations reared their head back in March, culminating in younger brother Jackson’s arrest on counts of battery and count of misdemeanor, Patrick refused to comment on the subject publicly. In a press conference back in May, he broke his silence and asked for privacy while dealing with the issues.

“Honestly, it’s kind of a personal thing that I’m just kind of going to keep to myself,” Patrick said. “I mean, at the end of the day, I come here to play football and try to take care of my family at the same time. So I just kinda keep it to myself and just go out there and play football when I’m in the building.”  In the end, the impact of the spotlight is a two-way street, as Patrick Mahomes also got caught up in the shade of his brother’s troubles.
