KANSAS City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is still on the injury report ahead of a huge AFC clash this weekend. The quarterback has been a full participant in Wednesday and Thursday practice. But he was still listed on the official Kansas City Chiefs injury report with a pectoral issue. It’s unclear when the Chiefs star picked up the injury, but he’s unlikely to miss Sunday’s game.
Kansas City are hosting their AFC rivals the Buffalo Bills in a massive game for both teams. The Chiefs are reeling after their defeat by the Green Bay Packers and could miss out on the No. 1 seeding. They are 8-4 this season and currently the third seed in the AFC playoffs. Kansas City has hosted the last five AFC Championship Games and has been to the Super Bowl three times in four years.
Buffalo, meanwhile, is 6-6 and resurgent after a poor start to the season. They need a win at Arrowhead Stadium to stay above 500 and help their playoff push. Mahomes has been in the wars this season, like many quarterbacks in the league. He suffered an ankle “scare” earlier this season against the Chicago Bears. The quarterback was fine to continue playing but picked up a hand injury last month as well.
He traveled to Germany for the Chiefs’ game in week 9 and played with tape on his non-throwing hand. Kansas City won that game against the Miami Dolphins 21-14 in front of 50,023 fans in Frankfurt, Germany. But Mahomes struggled to find a rhythm on offense and admitted it was only there “in spurts.”
He also battled illness ahead of the game – which possibly had an impact on a shock Week 8 loss. Kansas City was beaten by their division rival Denver Broncos on October 29. Four Chiefs players have missed both Wednesday and Thursday practice. Running back Isiah Pacheco has a shoulder problem and free safety Bryan Cook is dealing with an ankle injury. Offensive tackle Bryan Cook has a neck injury and Drue Tranquill has a concussion. Kansas City has 12 players on the injury report all headed into Friday.
