Jones elected to harp on the positives from Sunday’s division loss to the Eagles: Dak Prescott’s “outstanding” performance and Jones’ optimism for a Super Bowl run. Dallas Cowboys Owner and GM Jerry Jones reiterated Tuesday he’s not a believer in moral victories, but he did harp on positives he could take from the division loss against the Eagles on Sunday. “No, I don’t believe in moral victories,” Jones said. “Not at this juncture.”
Dallas’ owner did say, however, he is content with where the team lies at this point in the season, sitting at 5-3 and in the No. 5 spot in the NFC. Jones reiterated that he is optimistic in his team’s ability to win the Super Bowl.
“I’ll take where we are right now,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. Jones’ faith is rooted in his belief in the team’s quarterback. He said Prescott performed “outstanding” against the Eagles. Prescott threw for 374 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, nearly leading a game-winning drive.
“I thought our offensive line, even though [Terence] Steele had a tough day out there … just shows again, what kind of game [Prescott] played. It was outstanding, the game that he played. We should be able to get there, if Dak will play games like that. Now, I know that’s maybe a little different thing to hear from me, but if Dak can have those kinds of games, we can, I think, get where we want to be this year.”
One of the game-changing plays was when Prescott stepped out on a driving attempt at a two-point conversion. Had Prescott converted, the Cowboys only would have needed a field goal on the last possession to tie the game.
“That was a disappointing deal,” Jones said. “Five minutes after the game I was about as disappointed as you could imagine. It really hadn’t dawned on me how close we were to winning that game.” “I’d like to be there every time, with a chance to win with 30 seconds left,” Jones added. “I’ll take that and we’ll get most of them.”
