The chemistry between receiver and quarterback is perhaps one of the most underrated aspects of an offense, and for Kansas City Chiefs rookie Xavier Worthy, he and Patrick Mahomes are beginning to get that connection. We have seen what chemistry at the highest level can look like with Mahomes and Travis Kelce or Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams during their time in Green Bay, and while Worthy isn’t on that level yet, things are improving.
Coming into a new team, naturally, it would take time to get on a wavelength with Mahomes, and considering the host of other weapons on offense, Xavier wasn’t exactly No. 1 in the pecking order.
But as we approach Week 14, things are on the upswing between Xavier and Patrick. “Just the timing on everything,” Worthy said. “Coming into a new system, you throw to so many different receivers and then now you have this new guy coming in, so you got to build that chemistry. I feel like now it’ catching on, we’re just getting that chemistry together, it’s good.”
The last three weeks are perhaps the biggest examples of Worthy and Mahomes connecting on the field. Worthy has receiving totals of 61, 46, and 54 from a combined 13 receptions, which marks his most consistent stretch of his rookie season.
While the chemistry isn’t where the Chiefs would ideally like it, things are coming along, and in truth, it takes years to develop, but the pair are off to a good start. And with each passing game that Mahomes and Worthy connect, their chemistry grows stronger, and that equals a bad thing for opposing defenses.
