Angel Reese is quickly becoming a fan favorite due to her stellar performance on the basketball court. Her father, Michael Reese, also made his mark in the basketball world, though less is known about him.

Michael, a 6’8″ forward from Washington D.C., had a notable collegiate career. He began at Boston University and later transferred to Loyola Maryland University.  At Loyola, he was the team’s leading scorer and played a key role in leading the team to its first NCAA tournament appearance in the 1993/94 season.

After college, Michael continued his basketball career overseas, playing professionally in Luxembourg, Cyprus, Austria, and Portugal. Known for his competitive spirit and positive energy, Michael has undoubtedly influenced Angel’s approach to the game.

Parents split when kids were young

However, Angel rarely speaks about her father. Her parents separated when she and her brother were young, and she was primarily raised by her mother, Angel Webb.  Angel, a former college basketball player at UMBC, also had a professional career in Luxembourg. She has been honored by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with her number 10 jersey retired and induction into their Athletic Hall of Fame.

“I used to go to my mom’s games when I was younger,” she told Just Women’s Sports.  “She used to play in a little league, and I used to always go watch her games on Sundays. That was something that was always inspiring to me.”  Angel often credits her mother for her upbringing and basketball success, maintaining a close relationship with her and her younger brother.

Her mother’s influence and the family’s basketball legacy have clearly shaped Angel into the rising star she is today.  “My mom worked hard [when I was] growing up, raising us by herself,” Angel told Women’s Health.
