Panthers rookie tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders exited Sunday afternoon’s game vs. the Chiefs after he landed awkwardly on his head. The injury occurred late in the first half as Carolina drove into the red zone. After receiving a pass from Bryce Young, Sanders ran out of bounds to stop the clock and was upended by a Chiefs defender. Sanders landed on his head and needed assistance after laying motionless.

There was no penalty called on the play, but both teams were on the field to support Sanders. A backboard and cart were brought out to take Sanders off the field. Here’s what is known about his injury.

Carolina training staff brought out a backboard and cart to transport Sanders off the field. He gave fans at Bank of America Stadium a thumbs-up as he was carted off. Panthers head coach Dave Canales told CBS that Sanders was moving all his limbs after the fall. Sanders has been diagnosed with a neck injury and taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

After the game, Sanders was discharged from the hospital and returned to the Panthers facilities, which are located at Bank of America Stadium.
