Travis Kelce’s streak of 1,000+ yards in a season is set to end today after being ruled out by the Kansas City Chiefs. In photos exclusive to DailyMail.com, Kelce was seen leaving the team hotel in Los Angeles before the Chiefs take on the Los Angeles Chargers.
But they will be without Kelce and many of their other starters today because the game is essentially pointless. Kansas City has already clinched a playoff spot and the AFC West crown, while the Chargers have been eliminated from playoff contention already. That means that many of the Chiefs’ starters – including quarterback Patrick Mahomes – will be sat down over fear of injury in the last game of the season.
But it also marks the end of Kelce’s streak of consecutive seasons with over a thousand yards receiving. His regular season ends with 93 catches for 984 yards and five touchdowns. The last time the 34-year-old Kelce had less than 1,000 yards was his second year in the league, all the way back in 2015.
That marks seven straight years worth of 1,000+ yard seasons – the most among all tight ends in the league’s history. At age 34, Kelce’s seasons of high production are likely to be fewer as he gets up there in age. But this season has been particularly troublesome for the Kansas City offense – with Patrick Mahomes struggling to produce the same numbers that won him an MVP last season.
Kelce has also been occupied with his thoughts off the field – surrounding his newfound relationship with Taylor Swift. Swift is in Los Angeles as well – but not to attend the game or to watch her new beau. She’ll be attending the Golden Globes tonight as her Eras Tour movie is nominated Cinematic and Box Office Achievement Award by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Last night, she was seen out and about town getting dinner with her new friend Brittany Mahomes. Swift’s name has also been in the news after a New York Times opinion piece suggested that she might be gay.
