The Chiefs suffered their third loss in five games after being defeated 27-19 by the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Packers quarterback Jordan Love impressed on the night, throwing three touchdowns to improve his team’s record to six wins and six losses so far this campaign. A win would have seen the Chiefs clinch top spot in the AFC, but instead they’ve dropped down to third behind the Miami Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens.
Travis Kelce looked totally despondent after the game and recognized that his team put in a poor display against their NFL rivals: “I mean that’s a good football team (Green Bay Packers) and they played better than us. We’ve just got to keep rallying together and fighting and growing together,” he said in the dressing room after the game. “I mean that’s a good football team (Green Bay Packers) and they played better than us. Kelce was also asked whether the officiating on the night was to blame for the Chiefs loss but again was candid in his response. “I can’t blame this thing on anybody but ourselves man,” he said when questioned about the referee’s controversial decision late in the game. The most high-profile refereeing error came in the dying minutes of the game, when Patrick Mahomes attempted a throw to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who was clearly contacted by a Packers defender before attempting to make the catch.
On NBC, rules analyst Terry McAulay confirmed there was definitely contact. A decision in favor of the Chiefs- which should have been the case- would have given them ball at the two-yard line with more than enough time to score and attempt a two-point conversion to force overtime.
