Simone Biles will spend Christmas Day with her husband for the first time as the pair continue to enjoy their first year of marriage together by retreating to Chicago to mark the December 25 occasion together.
Part of the motivation behind that is convenience considering the Chicago Bears, who Jonathan Owens plays for as a safety, will be in action at Soldier Field on December 26 against the NFC West’s Seattle Seahawks.
So whilst the Olympian will miss out on seeing her grandparents and siblings in 2024 but she doesn’t seem to be too hung up about it as the 27-year-old gold medallist gymnast revealed she’s excited for moment alone with her partner.
“I’ve been begging Jonathan to go down in the basement and get the tree,” Biles joked to PEOPLE. “This will be the first Christmas that we’ll spend alone together as a couple, which is actually really nice.”

Despite the pair building a property in Texas, Owens has to spend much of his year based in Chicago after transferring to the NFL team upon his release from the near-by Green Bay Packers organization.
The 29-year-old is on a $4.7 million contract but it’s been a tough debut in the Windy City for the defensive player, with his side holding a 4-9 record and languishing in last place in the NFC North, although they’re banking on the future through their young quarterback, Caleb Williams.
The Bears will next be in action on Monday, December 16 when they take on the Minnesota Vikings, who are second in their division, at the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. Kick-off is expected at 20:00 ET/17:00 ET.
Fortunately, Biles is more than prepared to be on the go as she is regularly spotted in gym wear meaning she can be flexible with her time and what she chooses to do, so she is ready to split her time between Houston and Chicago.
“I wear [these items] almost daily,” Biles added. “Just because I’m always on the go or even lounging at home.”
