Shohei Ohtani is a celebrity everywhere he goes, he is the star of Major League Baseball and during the Dodgers tour in Seoul, South Korea, he has been treated like a superstar not only because of what he can do with his game but also because he traveled with his wife Mamiko Tanaka.

I don’t want to really get into details here, said Shohei Ohtani

During Saturday’s press conference, Ohtani made it clear to reporters that while he revealed he was on his first trip not only with the team but also with his new wife, with whom he is looking to make good memories, without having to go into more detail about his private life.

“I answered a lot of the marriage questions in an interview earlier, so I don’t want to really get into details here. But it is her first time coming with me to a game like this, so I think it’s going to be really great memories for both of us. Like I said earlier, I have one job to focus on. That’s baseball.” Ohtani said through an interpreter, where the message was clear.  Ohtani acknowledged that he is used to being a center of international media attention, but said he focuses on baseball.

“The attention is always great, being a baseball player and being able to play with these great guys next to me. I’m very excited,” Ohtani acknowledged, especially about Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, other Dodgers’ big stars, while despite the rivalry between Japanese and South Korean baseball, Ohtani enjoys popularity and a positive atmosphere.

Ohtani’s wife Mamiko Tanaka’s mystery solved

In late February, Ohtani, 29, said on Instagram that he was married to “a normal Japanese woman” whom he had known for three or four years. But he hadn’t said who she was until another Instagram post with a photo of him and Tanaka on Thursday.

Tanaka, 27, is a former professional basketball player who played for Fujitsu Red Wave in the Japan Women’s Basketball League from 2019 to 2023.  The Dodgers-Padres games on March 20-21 will be Ohtani’s debut with the Dodgers, and will be the first MLB regular-season games in Seoul.
