There’s more change in New York on Tuesday morning, as a prominent NFL general manager has been fired. The New York Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh earlier this season. The Jets entered the 2024 season with a healthy Aaron Rodgers and playoff – even Super Bowl – expectations. The team made a trade for DaVante Adams after a tough start to the year, going even further all-in on the season. But things haven’t improved. The Jets fell to 3-8 on the season with the loss to the Colts on Sunday.
Now, the Jets have decided to make another change. New York has reportedly fired general manager Joe Douglas. ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter confirmed the news on Tuesday afternoon. Douglas was on an expiring contract, but the franchise decided not to wait. The prominent general manager has been fired on Tuesday.
“More change in New York: Jets now have fired GM Joe Douglas, sources tell ESPN. Last month, head coach Robert Saleh. Now, Douglas. It’s a complete reboot for the Jets,” he reported. “Joe Douglas’ contract was scheduled to expire after this season. But the Jets did not want to wait.”

It’s been a season full of turmoil for the New York Jets, who have now fired both their head coach and their general manager, roughly halfway through the 2024 season. Douglas had been the team’s general manager for a little more than five seasons. He went a disappointing 30-64 during those five-plus seasons. The 2024 season was the most disappointing, by far.
New York entered the 2024 season with legitimate playoff hopes, with some suggesting that the Jets could contend for a Super Bowl. But nothing has gone right for the AFC East franchise in 2024, as Rodgers has struggled, the skill players have been inconsistent, the defense has been suspect and the coaching and front office decisions have been even worse. The Jets will now head into the 2025 season in a full rebuild mode.
