Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Marcus Mariota spoke about the performance of quarterback Jalen Hurts against the Miami Dolphins. Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Marcus Mariota talked about the demeanor of star quarterback Jalen Hurts in the 31-17 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday Night Football.
“He’s always very calm,” Mariota said via The Philadelphia Inquirer. “He’s always very poised. Doesn’t get too high, doesn’t get too low. And for him to be even-keeled throughout and to battle those two turnovers and to come back, I told him after that pick, ‘Man, that was such a huge response.’ Those are types of drives and plays that can really just set the momentum for the entire season.”
Late in the third quarter, on the first play after the Dolphins turned the ball over on downs deep in Eagles territory, Hurts threw an interception to Miami linebacker Jerome Baker, who returned the pick for a touchdown to tie the game at 17.
Hurts responded by leading Philadelphia down the field on an eight-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a 14-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown to put the Eagles back on top 24-17. After Tua Tagovailoa threw an interception on the next Dolphins drive, Philadelphia turned in a 13-play, 83-yard touchdown drive that took up 6:35 and essentially iced the game.
Hurts finished the game 23-of-31 for 279 yards and two touchdowns and added 21 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown as well. After the game had concluded, it became clear that he was dealing with an injury during the game but played through it. At halftime, he was late coming out of the locker room and when he finally did come out, he had a brace on his left leg.
Despite the injury and the two turnovers, Hurts put together one of his best performances of the season and looked poised throughout. The Eagles now stand as the lone one-loss team in the NFC after the San Francisco 49ers lost on Monday Night Football to the Minnesota Vikings.
