The NFL’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dolphins, which was played in Germany on Sunday night, saw Patrick Mahomes’ side walk away with a 21-14 win at the Deutsche Bank Park. Mahomes, who threw two touchdown passes on the night, spoke on the unique experience of playing outside of the US, with the quarterback praising the impressive German fans.
“The German fans, they were loud the entire game. They were passionate,” he said in the post-match press conference. “You could tell that they watch football, American football, on the daily. They really understand it. It was great for the NFL to give us this opportunity. I’m sure there will be many more as my career goes on. I’m excited to get back and be able to play, not only Frankfurt, Munich, but wherever the NFL goes,” he concluded Mahomes.
Fans claim game was “rigged”
The game was somewhat overshadowed by some particularly controversial on-field decisions, so much so that some fans claimed the match was rigged. The referees awarded 15 penalties in total, with just six given in favor of the Dolphins and the remaining nine to the Chiefs. Such decisions sparked outrage on social media, with many furious fans claiming that the league couldn’t let Mahomes and his Chiefs lose two weeks in a row. There were several plays which, according to spectators, show the lack of objectivity from the officials.
