Patrick Mahomes sends message to Chiefs bitter rivals Las Vegas Raiders after Antonio Pierce is fired

PATRICK Mahomes couldn’t help but share his thoughts on the Las Vegas Raiders’ firing of Antonio Pierce.   The Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback, 29, sent a message after Tuesday’s announcement from the rival Raiders.

Las Vegas revealed they parted ways with Pierce after the team finished 4-13 in his first full year with the team.  ESPN shared the news on Instagram, and Mahomes gave the post a like.  The action turned heads, with one fan commenting on the post, “Liked by Patrick Mahomes and 3 minutes ago is diabolical,” while another wrote, “Liked by Mahomes is crazy [laughing emoji].

It appears that Mahomes has since unlike the post after the move was noticed on social media.  The Chiefs beat the Raiders twice in the regular season and Mahomes is currently enjoying a first-round bye in the playoffs after leading the team to a 15-2 record and No. 1 seed in the AFC.

It comes as no surprise that there appears to be no love lost between Mahomes and Pierce due to the Chiefs-Raiders rivalry.  During the offseason, Pierce shared that the Raiders wanted to dominate the quarterback position last season – similar to how the 1980s Detroit Pistons were physical with Michael Jordan – and name-dropped Mahomes in the process.

“We’ve got what I’m calling now, from now on as long as I’m here, the Patrick Mahomes rules,” Pierce said last February.  “You remember when Jordan was going through it with the Pistons. … The Pistons used to whip his a**.  “Any time he came to the whole hole – elbows, feeling him, love taps. We’re in his head, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually.  “I’m touching you. So I showed my guys Jordan getting his a** whooped.”

Then, last summer, Raiders rookie Trey Taylor played with a Kermit the Frog doll rocking a Mahomes jersey.  “It’ll get handled when it gets handled,” Mahomes answered when asked about the joke aimed at him.  Mahomes would get his revenge on the field, throwing three touchdowns, 570 passing yards, and an interception combined in the two wins against Las Vegas.

Pierce was 5-4 in an interim role with the Raiders in 2023 after replacing the fired coach Josh McDaniels.  He even led the franchise to a win over the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas Day.  He was a full-time head coach this season, but the team received disappointing results from both sides of the ball.

Las Vegas had a 10-game losing streak before beating the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 16 and the New Orleans Saints in Week 17.  The Raiders became the sixth NFL Team to relieve a head coach from their duties this season – joining the New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Saints, New England Patriots, and Jaguars.
