Jackson Mahomes, sibling to the celebrated Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, an icon with three Super Bowl triumphs already under his belt, found himself subject to the rigors of justice.

The 23-year-old Jackson made a virtual appearance on Thursday for his sentencing proceedings, as delineated in online court records, where he pleaded guilty to a solitary misdemeanor charge of assault.

Following the pronouncement of his sentence, Jackson Mahomes was handed over to the custody of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, entrusted with the task of assessing his eligibility for work release.

What was Jackson Mahomes’ sentence?

The legal saga unfurled over a span of more than two months, during which prosecutors opted to drop three felony charges of aggravated sexual assault.

These allegations stemmed from accusations that Jackson Mahomes forcibly grasped a woman by the neck and forcibly kissed her within the confines of an Overland Park, Kansas, eatery in February 2023. Mahomes received a sentence of six months’ probation in connection with the alleged assault on a woman.

The decision to jettison the weightier charges was informed by the woman’s reluctance to cooperate, as explained in a court filing.  The sole remaining misdemeanor battery charge pertains to an incident where Jackson Mahomes purportedly shoved a waiter who sought to gain entry into a room where he was in the company of the aforementioned woman, according to investigative findings.

Prosecutors opted to dismiss the felony charges subsequent to the woman, who also happens to be the proprietor of the establishment, declining to testify in the legal proceedings.  She cited a barrage of death threats and harassment, attributing them to the repercussions of the charges leveled against Jackson Mahomes.

Consequently, she made the painful decision to shut her restaurant doors in August.  The Mahomes household has, regrettably, found itself ensnared in a web of legal entanglements. Notably, the NFL luminary’s father, former Major League Baseball pitcher Patrick Mahomes Sr., faced his own legal quandary when he was apprehended in Texas on February 3 on charges of driving under the influence.

Amidst the tumult, Patrick Mahomes Jr. persevered, etching his name in the annals of football history by clinching his third NFL championship ring a mere week later. His heroics culminated in a scintillating 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
