Shohei Ohtani can’t seem to stay out of headlines after signing his massive contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers this offseason.  Ohtani signed a record-breaking $700 million contract with the NL West side, making waves in the sporting world, and now, the Japanese ace has everyone talking after appearing on the cover of GQ Japan’s April 2024 issue.

The appearance will no doubt add to Ohtani’s global presence, as the MLB star continues to maintain his status as one of the most famous athletes on the planet.  Although Ohtani has spent the last few years in the United States while playing for the Los Angeles Angels, that hasn’t stopped him from still being a huge star back in his native country in Japan.

His stardom hasn’t been lost on fans either, with one fan joking he is now “the Taylor Swift of baseball.”  Another noted that Ohtani may now be the Tom Brady of baseball, while another stated that his wife should be happy considering he is a “good-looking dude.”

Ohtani announced he’s now married

Ohtani’s appearance on the cover of GQ comes after he announced that he’s married.  “The season is approaching but I would like to announce to everyone that I have gotten married,” he wrote on Instagram in Japanese.  Although Ohtani noted that his wife is a Japanese woman, he didn’t identify her.

That hasn’t stopped fans and pundits from trying to find out who his wife is given that Ohtani is Japan’s biggest celebrity. As a result, there has always been interest in his personal life, which he has always kept private.  “I began a new chapter in my career with the Dodgers, but I also have started a new life with someone from my native country of Japan who is very special to me,” he wrote.
