Erin Andrews’ nine-word message to Travis Kelce speaks volumes

Erin Andrews showed her true colors with a heartfelt reaction to her friend Travis Kelce’s crushing Super Bowl defeat.  The Kansas City Chiefs were demolished in a 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at Super Bowl LIX earlier this month, leaving their dreams of a three-peat in ruin. Chiefs tight end Kelce struggled on the night, recording zero receptions in the first half for the first time in his postseason career.

The 35-year-old, who is yet to make a decision regarding his NFL retirement, was visibly crestfallen. And FOX Sports broadcaster Andrews, 46, has now explained how she sought to comfort Kelce with a hug and a loving message.  Speaking on her Calm Down podcast with colleague Charissa Thompson, Andrews began by saying: “I’m disappointed both teams didn’t win.” She went on to highlight her postgame interaction with Kelce before he left Caesars Superdome.

Andrews said: “The shot they have of him coming from the locker room, now you know he was going up to the suite [where his girlfriend Taylor Swift was sitting], I didn’t.  “I was just getting off the field and he was just walking out and I was kind of walking like, ‘[expletive] it.’ I just turned around and I walked up to him because I don’t want to bug him, but like no. That’s our friend and this really sucks. I gave him a hug.”

She then revealed her heart-warming nine-word message: “I said, ‘I’m so sorry. I love you. I’m so sorry.'”  Andrews also called out fans who booed his pop star girlfriend Swift after she was shown on the Jumbotron at the same game, adding: “I feel bad for the most famous amazing woman who [expletive] gets booed at the Super Bowl. Get out of here.”

Andrews’ comments came after she came under fire on social media for what a minority of NFL fans perceived to be an uncomfortable interview with Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Her critics claimed she had sounded disappointed that the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t win the game, as she took a more reserved approach with Hurts.

Meanwhile, Kelce briefly addressed reporters in the locker room, refusing to comment on his future before making his way to Swift’s suite. “There’s a lot that goes into it,” he said after the crushing defeat. “You don’t lose like that without everything going bad. We haven’t played that bad all year.”
