Philadelphia Eagles player Cooper DeJean believes his girlfriend, Steph Wilfawn, is the true MVP of his championship football season. “She’s been a trooper,” DeJean, 22, shared on the Tuesday, February 18, episode of “The Pivot” podcast. “She’s been handling a lot, going through a lot, but she’s been there every step of the way.”
Although Wilfawn was spotted at DeJean’s NFL Draft celebration in April 2024, she did not go Instagram official with the athlete until July 2024. Since then, she has been one of his biggest supporters both on and off the football field.
“I met her back in college so she’s been there for me, which I appreciate, and I need [her] throughout this crazy time,” DeJean explained. “My phone’s been blowing up, especially after the Super Bowl. It’s almost hard to even go on my phone anymore just because [of] everything that’s going on — getting tagged in a bunch of stuff and things like that. But she’s been a trooper. She’s been there for me, so I appreciate her for that.”
Although DeJean may be considered a rookie cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles, he caught the attention of football fans during Super Bowl LIX on February 9 when he intercepted Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in the second quarter and ran the ball in for a touchdown.
The play, which put the Eagles up 17-0, happened on DeJean’s 22nd birthday. His team ultimately won the Super Bowl with a dominant 40-22 performance. Since the big win, the Odebolt, Iowa, native has experienced victory parades, a shoutout from WNBA star Caitlin Clark and a whole new level of fame.
The adjustment has been a “little bit” tough, according to the University of Iowa alum. “Just like going out and going places and sometimes you just want to enjoy your time out, and go do things that you want to do with your people,” he explained. “But I understand that it’s what comes with it, but there are those times [when] you just want to sit back and relax with your people and do things that normal humans do. That’s what comes with it.”
With the offseason officially here, DeJean is looking forward to enjoying a little rest and relaxation before the Eagles begin their quest for another Super Bowl championship ring. “One of the best days of my life,” he wrote via Instagram on Sunday, February 16, when reflecting on the Super Bowl parade. “The best fans in the world. World Champions.🦅😎.”
