Brittany Mahomes and Patrick Mahomes are in their element when it comes to naming their kids—and their dogs. Indeed, the Sports Illustrated model—who is mom to Sterling Skye, 3, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, 2, and infant daughter Golden Raye—previously detailed how her and the NFL star found the inspiration for their kids’ names. And it comes down to a tradition first started with their dogs Steel and Silver.
“I got steel in college and named him after that,” Brittany wrote in an April 2023 Instagram story. “We then got our second dog & was gonna name her sterling cause it went with steel perfect.” “Then I said no, one day I want that to be daughters name so then we came up with Silver to go with steel. Then daughter came & we were already set on sterling,” she continued, “then having a boy and him being Patrick Mahomes III, Bronze was just meant to be and went perfect.”
And this thought process did not stop as the couple welcomed their third baby, Golden, Jan. 12. In fact, they proudly displayed her name in their Instagram announcement post one day later, featuring an adorable photo of their hands cradling their baby girl’s feet in front of a wooden sign with “Golden Raye” displayed on it.
The couple—who tied the knot in 2022—first announced that were expecting a third baby in a joint Instagram post exactly six months prior. “Round three,” the high school sweethearts wrote in the caption of their July 12 Instagram post, alongside a video of their family dancing with a sonogram, “here we come.”
But Brittany has since shared insight into how exhausting pregnancy has been for her. “I need naps,” the 29-year-old admitted on an August episode of the Whoop podcast. “So I like to work my naps into my schedule now, because when you’re pregnant you’re tired.” “With the first pregnancy, it was just me,” she explained. “So I could take naps, sleep all day, you know, I had nothing priority for me to do. Then, with Bronze, it was like, ‘Well, I have to take care of this kid but I’m tired,’ so I would just nap when she napped.”
Even so, Brittany showed time and time again that she was committed to staying fit and sticking to her workout routine—even in the face of a back injury and her third trimester of pregnancy. And some of those workouts ended up being a family affair. “The best workouts,” Brittany wrote over a Jan. 1 video posted to her Instagram Stories, with Sterling sitting comfortably on her mom’s head as she leaned against the weight bench lifting dumbbells.
After all, the Kansas City Chiefs player has learned to cherish every moment with their family from the former soccer player, naming Brittany the quarterback of the family. “Enjoy your life every single day and not worry about what everyone thinks,” the 29-year-old told E! News of Brittany’s outlook on life in 2023. “You want to enjoy those moments and remember those moments. And for us, we try to enjoy those moments with our family as much as possible.”
“She has her head on her shoulders the right way. She’s my rock. She’s the one that, through tough times, can get me through,” Patrick gushed. “Having someone that supports you every single day like I do is the reason that I am in the position that I am today.”
