The former US president was quick to congratulate the NFC East champions on their stunning Super Bowl success on Sunday night, highlighting his sentiments towards Nick Sirianni and co.
Barack Obama declared “second time’s the charm” in a congratulatory message to the Philadelphia Eagles following their victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX. The NFC East outfit put in a remarkable performance to stun their shell-shocked opponents, leaving the two-time defending champions looking a shadow of their former selves as they failed to cope with the high-intensity of the Eagles.
Completely ripping up the script with their performance, Nick Sirianni’s side effectively had the game wrapped up by the half-time break, emerging 40-22 winners in front of a raucous crowd at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans where the likes of Donald Trump and Taylor Swift watched the spectacle unfold.
But Trump, who had publicly backed the Chiefs ahead of the game, left early. He had seen enough before the start of the fourth quarter. The final result meant Philadelphia enacted revenge over the Chiefs from their 2023 meeting in Arizona, claiming just its second ever Super Bowl title with the win and denying their opponents the chance to become the first side in history to win three in a row.
In response to this, former president Obama expressed his congratulations to the Eagles with a touching message on social media. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), he said: “Second time’s the charm. Congrats to the @Eagles, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Nick Sirianni and an outstanding defense for winning one for Philly. You earned it!”
As for the current president, Trump made sure to grab the headlines as he became the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl. On a special night in New Orleans, the 78-year-old certainly appeared to enjoy himself, notably cheering on the Chiefs and earning plaudits for saluting to the cameras during the national anthem.

He also cracked a wry smile when Kamala Harris-endorser and pop star sensation Swift was booed by fans inside the stadium, taking to Truth Social following the game to air his pleasure at the scene. “The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She got BOOED out of the Stadium. MAGA is very unforgiving!” Trump wrote.
Prior to the game, the 47th US president gave an interview with FOX News in which he heaped praise on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, who is known to be one of his supporters. Brittany has appeared to endorse Trump on a number of occasions, with Patrick also believed to be a fan of the president. Explaining the reasoning behind his decision to pick the Chiefs to win the game, Trump said: “I’ve watched this great quarterback, who’s got a phenomenal wife, she is a Trump fan and a MAGA fan, I happen to love her, she’s a great person. I have to go with Kansas City.”
