On Thursday, the Chicago Sky dealt the New York Liberty their first loss of the WNBA season by grabbing a 90-81 victory in New York. This wasn’t the first time Chicago outplayed New York. Just over two weeks ago, the Sky dominated the Liberty in a preseason game, winning by nearly 50 points. Angel Reese has been a central figure in Chicago’s success against New York, posing a constant challenge for the Liberty.
Reese gets under Jones’ skin
Tensions between the teams were evident during Thursday’s game. Early in the third quarter, Angel Reese cut off 2021 WNBA MVP Jonquel Jones as she was running down the court, leading Jones to charge into Reese and send her to the floor.Jones was called for a foul on the play, giving possession back to Chicago. Reese, with a grin, was helped up by her teammates. “[Reese] has a tremendous why behind what she does and she brings along everybody with her,” Chicago Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon said.
Just watch Angel Reese and Jonquel Jones move down the floor here. Look at the skills Angel already has
she baits Jonquel into her 4th foul with some smart agitation.#WNBA

“She doesn’t go by herself in an instant in this life. If you have, make sure the next one has. “She’s a champion. She’s a winner. So she wants to go win. She’s a competitor. “When she steps out on the other side, she’s earned what’s on the outside.” The two teams are set to meet again on June 4, when all eyes will be on whether Reese continues to get under Jones’ skin and disrupt the Liberty’s game plan.
