Tensions are high in the WNBA following the Commissioner’s Cup opener between the Indiana Fever and the Chicago Sky.  The game has garnered significant attention, but much of it is due to an altercation between Caitlin Clark and Chennedy Carter.

This incident has caused a rift among fans, and the situation escalated when Angel Reese, a former college rival of Clark, got involved. Reese’s intervention has sparked controversy and divided opinions.  “I’ll look back in 20 years and be like, yeah, the reason why we watching women’s basketball is not just because of one person, it’s because of me too and I want you to realize that,” Reese said.

“It’s not just because of one person, a lot of us have done so much for this game and there are so many other players in this league that have deserved this for a really really long time.”  Her comments have led to a wave of backlash on social media, with many criticizing her actions and labeling her as selfish.

Cloud backs Reese

In the midst of this controversy, Natasha Cloud of the Phoenix Mercury expressed her support for Reese, who was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.  “They love to villainize a strong black woman,” Cloud wrote on an X post where she quotes part of Reese’s interview.  Cloud’s backing has generated a flood of responses from fans, who have been vocal about their views on Reese’s stance and the overall incident.
