College basketball star Angel Reese was distraught after seeing her boyfriend Cam’Ron Fletcher suffer what appeared to be a serious injury on Saturday. The Florida State Seminoles guard was attempting a shot with a little less than five minutes left on the clock when he was blocked by UNC’s Armando Bacot.
Despite trying to get back to his feet, he had to be carried to the tunnel after picking another knee injury, just as he did last campaign. “I love you my sweet boy,” Reese wrote on social media towards Fletcher.
Shaquille O’Neal offers Reese advice after being dropped
Angel Reese was spontaneously dropped for four games by the LSU Tigers’ head coach, Kim Mulkey, but she had an excellent mentor to manage her through the period as Shaquille O’Neal stepped in to offer a hand.
Before his glittering NBA career, Shaq played for the LSU Tigers in his college days, and has kept a close relationship with the university some 31 years later and now he has used that connection to help guide Reese through a tumultuous period. “I talked to Shaq every day,” Reese said per NOLA.com. “We facetime every day. He checked on me, called me every single day to make sure I was good.
“He told me every day, ‘This too shall pass. This too shall pass. This too shall pass.’ He’s been here before. He knows what it takes. Just being able to have somebody like that was something that was good for me. “He told me when I was right, told me when I was wrong, told me what I needed to do to get back to where I am.”
Reese is currently averaging 17.4 points and 10 rebounds per game from her chosen position as a shooting guard/small forward and she showed no signs of losing any form on her return against the Virginia Tech by posting 19 points and nine rebounds. “It felt great (to be back),” Reese said. “It was a long two weeks to be away from the team. Taking time to yourself is really important. “I feel like that was something that was important to reset and refocusing within the team. I’m just happy to be back. This place was amazing tonight, I’m just happy to be here.”
