LSU didn’t have a ton to play for on Thursday night against Georgia, but Kim Mulkey’s Tigers treated the game like an NCAA Tournament matchup. LSU ended up winning 80-54. With the victory, LSU clinched the No. 2 seed in the forthcoming SEC Tournament, which begins on March 6. South Carolina will be the No. 1 seed.
Before tonight’s game began, the NCAA projected LSU as a No. 3 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. The Tigers still have a chance to move up to a No. 2 seed, especially if they win the SEC Tournament.
Angel Reese injures ankles, returns and plays well
Aneesah Morrow helped LSU get off to a hot start, quickly pouring in eight points and putting the Tigers ahead 13-5 early in the game. Angel Reese began to assert her authority, as well, but she twisted her ankle late in the first quarter. She had to limp to the bench, but everyone breathed a sigh of relief when she re-entered early in the second quarter. Reese and Morrow both ended the first half with 12 points.
The second half looked set to quickly become another drubbing, with LSU taking a 29-point lead with just over three minutes left. But Georgia went on a 14-0 run to end the third quarter. Mulkey’s team was able to weather the storm in the fourth, leaving Athens with their 25th win of the season. Up next is the regular season finale against Kentucky.
