Angel Reese Admits Her Confidence Struggles While Growing Up

SKY-ANGEL

Angel Reese reflected on her experience growing up as a Black woman and the moments that made her realize she was different.

In the latest episode of her podcast “Unapologetically Angel” with guest celebrity fashion stylist and Chicago native Law Roach, the WNBA star opened up about standing out from the crowd and how, at one point, she struggled with low self-esteem.

The public might see the 6-foot-3 stunner with overflowing confidence, but the Chicago Sky star admitted that she was once a shy girl while growing up.

During her conversation with Roach about building confidence, Reese revealed that she became self-conscious because of her height.

“For me, growing up, I was always a tall girl, so nothing fit me,” Reese shared. “It was kind of hard for me to feel confident and comfortable within myself.”

The Sky forward also recalled how she saw herself as a shy “exotic girl” because of her appearance.

“And I was also a Black woman, so I just felt like I stood out,” she added. “I was not ordinary. I was just this exotic girl who was taller than everybody.”

Interestingly, the Maryland native never imagined she would rise to become one of the most popular WNBA players of her generation.

And it didn’t stop there—Reese has also graced high-profile fashion events, including the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, where she turned heads in a stunning, see-through red crochet Diotima dress designed by Rachel Scott.

Clearly, Reese has overcome her confidence issues and is now taking action to help inspire young girls who were once like her.
