Since the Super Bowl sideline argument, there has been a considerable buzz. Various critics, including NFL fans and the media, expressed a desire to see some penalty on Travis Kelce, for yelling at his head coach Andy Reid. However, the 65-year-old is now trying to clear the air, revealing his and the Chiefs’ love for Kelce.
During the second quarter of a nail-biting Super Bowl LVIII game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Kelce seemed upset with Reid about how the team was playing. Throwing his helmet on the ground, Kelce stepped forward towards Reid, showing his meltdown episode that went viral on the internet. Since then, many have demanded some sort of punishment for his behavior with the coach. But Reid has no animosity towards his “kid” as he revealed the tight end’s popularity over Patrick Mahomes for the team in certain situations.
Andy Reid considers Travis Kelce as his child!
In a latest episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd on Fox Sports Radio, Andy Reid joined the radio show host to talk about fresh off another championship, NFL Scouting Combine, Patrick Mahomes’ greatness, and Travis Kelce’ sideline meltdown incident. When Cowherd asked Reid if he thinks the viral incident was “overblown by the media,” the 65-year-old replied with a laugh, “I didn’t see him coming or I would have forearm ripped him.” Reid continued, “But I mean, he got me. I love his passion and I’m gonna tell you he just goes fire me up, he’s always telling me fire me up and so I’m hard on him. He’s like one of my kids.”
Talking about the Chiefs embracing Kelce over Mahomes, Reid happily revealed, “I mean I try to stay on top of him and make sure that he’s right because he’s our personality, of our team, as great a leader as Patrick is, everybody follows Kelce when he’s fired up. Everybody follows along in that and so things get a little crazy but that’s why it’s the job so great, his job’s great, my job’s great, we’re not getting put in the back of a police car for arguing with each other. That’s not what’s happened.”
Although Reid has forgiven Kelce on the same day of the incident, it seems the tight end still has regret for what he did to his coach.
Travis Kelce felt he should be punched?
Soon after winning the Super Bowl, Travis Kelce was asked about his thoughts on the incident that led Andy Reid to stumble as the tight end reportedly slightly pushed him. In a post-game presser, Kelce initially joked, “I was just telling [Reid] how much I love him,” and later revealed that he has already asked for an apology to the 65-year-old Chiefs’ mastermind. However, for what happened, was definitely a shameful act according to Kelce, who accepted his fault in a February’s episode of the “New Heights.”
In the podcast, the 34-year-old expressed, “I can’t get that fired up to the point where bumping Coach and it’s getting him off balance and stuff. When he stumbled, I was like: ‘Aw, shit’ in my head.” Kelce further added, “I couldn’t be more proud of being his product on the field, and I couldn’t be more proud of where we’ve come as a team since I got here in 2013….I deserve it. If he would have cold-cocked me in the face right there, I would have just ate it. I would have been like: ‘Let’s fucking go.’”
