THE Kansas City Chiefs have sent a clear message as the NFL’s trade deadline approaches. NFL teams have until November 4 to finalize any trade deals with other franchises.
Chiefs’ CEO Clark Hunt has now suggested to Fox that his side will be active on deadline day. The 60-year-old owner is preparing for the side to continue a trend seen over recent seasons.
He believes that general manager Brett Veach will look to fill holes that have appeared in the Chiefs’ roster. “Brett Veach has been historically aggressive at the trade deadline,” Hunt said.
“If he feels we have a need he’s not shy about addressing it and I think that will be true again this year. It has been a mixed start to the 2025 NFL season for the Chiefs.
They suffered back-to-back defeats to open their campaign. This included a 20-17 Super Bowl LIX rematch loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, the Chiefs have impressively rallied to improve their form over recent weeks. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 30, has led his team to five wins from their last six games.
This has led former New York Giants star Michael Strahan, 53, to back the Chiefs to reach the Super Bowl this year. But it will be a tall order as the franchise remains third in the AFC West, behind the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers.
Hunt is keen for the Chiefs to prioritize recruiting players in injury-ravaged positions. “Obviously an important part of it is where you stand from an injury standpoint,” Hunt continued. “We’ve been pretty fortunate up to this point.”
“We sadly lost [Omarr] Norman-Lott last week. And that definitely hurt us along the defensive line.” They have already sprung into action to find an immediate replacement for the injured defensive tackle.
The Chiefs have recruited defensive tackle Mike Pennel, 34, after being axed by the Cincinnati Bengals. Pennel is in his third stint in Kansas City after winning two Super Bowls with the franchise.
Defensive end Malik Herring, 27, has been released to accomodate this move. The Chiefs will travel to face the 5-2 Buffalo Bills on Sunday for their last game before the trade deadline arrives.
