Fans demand NFL bans ‘tush push’ after Philadelphia Eagles ran controversial play four times in a row

NFL fans have called for a major rule change after the Philadelphia Eagles’ usage of the tush push.

The Eagles opted for the controversial tush push four times in a row during their shock 34-17 loss to the New York Giants last night.  Their decision came midway through the second quarter as the Giants led by three points.

It has led to uproar on social media as fans urge the NFL to ban the contentious play.  “This is why tush push needs to be banned. Football is supposed to be entertainment. This ruins the game,” one fan posted on X.

The tush push has proven controversial as the Eagles have been the only team to successfully incorporate it.  It allows the offense to almost guarantee short-yardage gain as they physically push for a first down.

This allowed quarterback Jalen Hurts, 27, to rush for a touchdown on the Eagles’ fourth tush push attempt.  “It’s sort of like watching a senior citizen pay for their Starbucks with a jar of pennies. Is it legal? Sure. Is it frustrating for everyone else in line? Yes,” another shared.

Previous calls were made to outlaw the tush push after the Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.  It helped them to a 20-17 win in their Super Bowl LIX rematch.  However, the NFL are yet to make a decision on the move’s future.

League bosses voted to keep the tush push for the 2025 season after the Green Bay Packers proposed banning the play.  Despite this, it remains intensely controversial as many fans believe that referees are overly lenient towards the Eagles.

Several fans have argued that the NFL should enforce false start rules instead of outright banning the tush push.  “Especially when there’s a false start,” a third fan commented.

“The weirdest rule in football is that the guard gets to move before the snap but only on a tush push, and only by the Eagles. It’s real ,happens every week,” a fourth joked.

NFL vice president of officiating training and development Ramon George has claimed that mistakes have previously been made.  He suggested that the Eagles should have been flagged for a false start during their Week 2 win against the Chiefs.

Fans continue to claim that the tush push gives the Eagles an unfair advantage against other teams.  But it was not enough as Hurts’ touchdown was their last score in their unexpected upset at the MetLife Stadium.  The Eagles have now suffered back-to-back losses but remain leading the NFC East after six games.
