Chiefs’ Andy Reid Gets Brutally Honest After Tough 0-2 Start

The Kansas City Chiefs and head coach Andy Reid were hoping to bounce back strong from their Week 1 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers. Facing off against the Philadelphia Eagles was no easy task, but it was a chance to get revenge for their loss in the Super Bowl last year.

Unfortunately, the Chiefs ended up losing to the Eagles once again. This time, they fell by a final score of 20-17. It is Kansas City’s first 0-2 start with Patrick Mahomes leading the way.

While the season is far from over, panic has started to creep in. There is a lot of concern about the Chiefs and for good reason. It’s not time to “panic,” but it is reason to worry.

Neither team played a great all-around game. However, Philadelphia was able to make more winning plays when they were needed than Kansas City.

Following the game, Reid spoke out and got brutally honest. He shouldered the responsibility for losing to the Eagles.

“I’ll take full responsibility for that game,” Reid said. “I probably stayed too aggressive on that, and that’s my responsibility. I thought my guys played their tail off. They played hard and aggressive football. They stuck together throughout the game, and that’ll pay [off] for us down the road as we continue to grow.”

Reid also sent a very clear message to his team. He wants to see them continue doing what they’ve been doing.  “Yeah, keep playing hard,” Reid said. “I’ll take this one. You keep playing hard. Stick together and play hard.”

Mahomes struggled a bit through the air throughout the course of the Week 2 showdown. He completed 16 of his 29 pass attempts for 187 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. He also ran for 66 yards and a touchdown on seven attempts.

Losing to the Eagles is nothing for the Chiefs to hang their heads about. Once again, Philadelphia is expected to be a top-tier Super Bowl contender.

Next week, Kansas City needs to take care of business. Reid and company will hit the road for a Sunday Night Football matchup against the New York Giants. That game will be as close to a must-win as it can get this early in a season.

An 0-2 start can be overcome, but an 0-3 start gets much more difficult. Reid is one of the best head coaches in the NFL and fans can be sure that he’ll have the Chiefs ready to take on the Giants.
