Taylor Swift appeared to not expect the crowd’s reaction to her Super Bowl appearance. The Love Story singer was in the crowd at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday February 9 to cheer on her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, as he and his team the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles. But fans of the latter team were not happy to see Taylor when she was shown on the big screen.
Sitting next to her friend, rapper Ice Spice, the star donned a simple white tank top and jean shorts. During the first quarter of the game, Taylor was shown on the screen as boos from Eagles fans echoed around the stadium, leaving the star flabbergasted as she said something to those around her.
While videos of the star’s shocked reaction don’t have any audio of Taylor’s verbal reaction to the booing, lip reader NJ Hickling shared with the Mirror US what Taylor said. “Aww what, what’s going on,” she said, seemingly affirming that she was caught off guard by the negative reaction.
Heading into half time, the Eagles were leading with a score of 24-0, on the way to ruining the Chiefs’ chance at a three-peat of Super Bowl wins. The team won the last two championships, beating out the Eagles in 2023 and the San Francisco 49ers in 2024.
Taylor attended the last Super Bowl to cheer on Travis and the Chiefs, joining her beau on the field as they celebrated the win. Ever since Taylor and Travis went public with their relationship in 2023, the NFL has appeared to capitalize on the star’s attendance at games.
The league was previously criticized for how many times they would pan to the star during the games. The viewership of games went up as well since Taylor attended, leading to many questioning the realness of the high-profile relationship.
The NFL’s commissioner Roger Goodell was asked if the Taylor and Travis relationship was a stunt in order to raise viewership. “I don’t think I’m that good (of) a scripter or anybody on our staff,” the commissioner replied,”There’s no way that I could have scripted that one.
