NFL Fans Are Ripping Andy Reid For His Parenting Advice

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid dished out some advice to quarterback Patrick Mahomes Tuesday.  Reid’s guidance had nothing to do with football matters. Instead, it was regarding fatherhood. Mahomes became the father of three over the weekend when his wife Brittany gave birth to a daughter, Golden Raye. The couple already had one daughter, Sterling, and a son, Bronze.

“Yeah, I think he does great with it. He came in as Patrick 2PM, now he’s Patrick 3PM,” Reid said. “Once you have three, four and five are easy. That’s what I told him. You made three, add a couple more. We’ll talk.”

Funny in a vacuum, but some NFL fans thought it was a little inappropriate from Reid given his own family history. His son Britt, at the time a Chiefs assistant, crippled a five-year-old girl when he drove drunk and crashed his car in February 2021. His oldest son Garrett died of a heroin overdose in 2012.  “Dad of the Year who got a prison sentence commuted for his son who drove drunk and disabled a little girl,” one person said.

“He’s right. Raising 5 kids is easy. Raising 5 kids that aren’t dead or felons for nearly killing a young child while driving drunk is really hard,” a second person added.  “Brb gonna get financial advice from Bernie Madoff now,” a third person said.  “not sure this is the guy u want parenting advice from,” a fourth person chimed in.  “After giving advice on raising children, Reid gave advice on how to eat healthy,” a fifth chimed in.

If we’re being honest, it is something of a low blow to reference Garrett Reid’s drug issues and overdose when criticizing Reid here.  However, considering the damage his son Britt caused with an inexcusable decision, we understand why people brought that up.  Felicia Miller, the mother of the young girl severely injured in Britt Reid’s DUI crash, told ESPN in March 2024 she has yet to forgive the former coach.

“We went to court, we [were] told, you’re going to get justice,” Miller said after Reid’s sentence was commuted. “He’s put away for a year and about three months. So we didn’t get [any] justice. It’s not enough.  “I know they say sometimes you have to forgive and forget to move on. But looking at my baby every day and seeing my daughter, how she has to live, and then seeing how he could be back at home, comfortable.”
