Congratulations to Brittany and Patrick Mahomes! The Kansas City couple welcomed their third child (second daughter) into the world on January 12, 2025. And guess what? Keeping the same theme, they named their newborn, similar to Sterling and Bronze.  Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, posted a photo of their newborn baby’s small feet.

This black-and-white snap also featured a name plaque, “Golden Raye.” The mom of three also made sure to announce her birthdate and full name in the caption: “Golden Raye Mahomes 1/12/25,” along with stars and bow ribbon emojis.  Now as the baby was born and named “Golden,” many of the fans flooded with comments like: Why Golden? Well, some even claimed that they expected something similar, such as “Goldie.” The reason? It’s because of the baby name pattern.

So, to answer the question, why did the Mahomes couple decide to keep the baby’s name “Golden?” Well, let us remind you that the names of their children are medal-themed. However, surprisingly, it’s in a different order.  Patrick Mahomes named the eldest child Sterling, something similar to Silver (her dog too gifted by Patrick Mahomes in college).

Then, they named their second child Bronze. And so, as per the expectations of many, they named the second daughter “Golden.” So, now the Mahomes couple have Golden, Sterling (a type of Silver), and Bronze, a perfect medal-themed family.  Now, we all know why Patrick Mahomes and his wife named their second girl Golden. But, besides that, the names of Sterling and Bronze have different stories too.

Why do Brittany and Patrick Mahomes go with Bronze and Sterling?

Patrick Mahomes and his beloved wife, Brittany Mahomes, have picked unique names for their kids. But what was the origin of it? How did the first baby get the name Sterling, and also not Silver? In a May 2023 Q&A, the fitness freak explained the reason. There she disclosed that originally the idea of these baby names stemmed from one of her beloved dogs—Steel.

In that update, the Kansas City Chiefs’s QB’s wife expressed, “I got Steel in college and named him that. We then got our second dog and was gonna name her Sterling because it went with Steel perfect. Then I said no, I want that to be my daughter’s name, so then we came up with Silver to go with Steel.” After that, when the couple welcomed Bronze in November 2022, they tried to find a suitable name for him, keeping the Mahomes’s naming tradition alive.

But it was Bronze’s uncle, Jackson Mahomes, who gave him his famous moniker. At a press conference in November 2022, Patrick Mahomes informed, “My brother Jackson, whenever we were trying to find something that was a little unique and different, he said, ‘What about Bronze? It fits perfectly with Sterling. So, we went with that.” And it worked really well!  Now with the third baby, the medal-themed, or we can say the metal-themed tradition has continued. What do you think? Aren’t these monikers interesting?
