The Kansas City Chiefs earned an extra week of rest after clinching the No. 1 seed in the AFC. After defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 29-10 in Week 17, the Chiefs secured a first-round bye and home field advantage in the postseason.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is technically getting two weeks of rest, as head coach Andy Reid benched most of the team’s starters against the Denver Broncos in Week 18. Due to a severe winter storm that hit Kansas City, Mahomes and Co. were forced to spend the night in Denver, a nerve-racking experience for the three-time Super MVP since his wife, Brittany Mahomes, is very pregnant.
CBS Sports’ Tracy Wolfson posted on Jan. 6, “No one happier to get back to KC than Patrick Mahomes. He told me his wife Brittany is due to give birth to their 3rd child on Sunday. If she doesn’t give birth by then she will be induced Monday. There was def extra motivation for Patrick to get that bye week! 😜.” Just two days before her date, however, Brittany proved she wasn’t letting their daughter’s arrival affect her workout routine.
Brittany’s trainer, Kirsty Rae, posted a video of the 29-year-old doing weighted squats on Friday. She captioned the post, “baddie mama @brittany lynne.” Rae noted that this isn’t for everyone so soon before their due date. “When done safely, strength training during pregnancy is one of the most powerful things you can do.”
Brittany and Mahomes are already parents to daughter, Sterling Skye, 3, and son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, 2. They also have two dogs Silver and Steele. Therefore, fans are convinced the famous couple will keep a similar theme with naming baby No. 3 and perhaps, call her Goldie.
If all goes according to plan for Mahomes, he will become a father of three before leading the Chiefs to a historic Super Bowl three-peat.
