From one Philadelphia Eagles legend to another in the making, former Eagles running back LeSean McCoy sent a classy message to Saquon Barkley after his record-breaking day in a win against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Barkley rushed 20 times for 124 yards, which was impressive in its own right as he continues his dominant display week in and week out. However, he officially set the new franchise record in Eagles history for most rushing yards in a single season.
Barkley broke none other than McCoy’s record, which was set in 2013 with 1,607 rushing yards. Barkley now has 1,623 rushing yards and counting, with still four games remaining on Philadelphia’s schedule.
Nonetheless, McCoy was quick to issue a message to Barkley following his historic day.

LeSean McCoy was the last running back for the Eagles who truly imposed fear on the opposition, a playmaker in every sense of the word—much like Saquon Barkley during his career. McCoy had been an avid fan of Barkley all season, even saying prior to Sunday’s game that he was rooting for Barkley to break his record. And that’s exactly what happened.
This season, Barkley has already carried the ball 266 times for 1,623 yards and 11 touchdowns. Despite the Giants letting him walk to a division rival, Barkley has proven himself to be one of the league’s best running backs all season long. Meanwhile, the Giants have already been eliminated from the postseason. A full circle moment for the former Penn State Nittany Lions star.
