The Philadelphia Eagles are flying high right now with a nine-game winning streak following their victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The Eagles beat the Panthers, 22-16, with running back Saquon Barkley setting a new franchise single-season rushing record with 1,623 yards with four games left. Philadelphia improved to 11-2 and clinched a playoff berth.
Some of the Eagles, however, weren’t too pleased with their passing game against Carolina. Quarterback Jalen Hurts had two touchdowns passes but only threw for 108 yards—his fewest in their last seven outings. He also rushed for a score. Despite the win, wide receiver DeVonta Smith said they weren’t on the same page this week, echoing the earlier comment of fellow pass catcher AJ Brown.
“Thinking the same, seeing the right signals,” said the 26-year-old Smith in a report from ESPN’s Tim McManus. “Just going out there and making it work.” He caught a touchdown pass but only had four receptions.
The 26-year-old Hurts took accountability for their paltry passing in Week 14. They are last in the NFL this season in passing attempts with only 328. “That starts with me, how I execute,” said the All-Pro Second Team member in the same report. “Ultimately, you yearn, and I yearn for better synchronization, for a more complimentary style of ball.
“There’s definitely been some urgency there, trying to figure it out. And got to keep climbing and trying to progress.” When asked if Smith’s remarks are something that they should be concerned about heading into the postseason, where defenses will be more locked in, the Eagles star gave a curt reply. “No,” said Hurts. “I’ll just say no.” The Eagles will look to extend their hot streak against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.
