Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gave fans a brief scare during Friday’s Black Friday matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders when he appeared to injure his left hand in the third quarter. Mahomes was on the ground following a hit when center Creed Humphrey tripped and inadvertently fell on his non-throwing hand. Though the impact caused visible discomfort, Mahomes was able to return to the game after being evaluated on the sideline.

Chiefs fans watched anxiously as Mahomes left the field following the incident, holding his left hand, which appeared limp.

However, it was quickly evident that the injury was not severe enough to sideline the star quarterback. He returned to lead the team on their next offensive drive, easing concerns about a significant issue.  Though initial reports suggest the injury was minor, the full extent of the damage remains unclear. Mahomes’ resilience and quick return highlight his competitive spirit, but any lingering effects could be a point of concern for Kansas City moving forward.

A record-setting day despite the scare

Before the injury, Mahomes had another historic moment. He threw his 238th career touchdown pass, surpassing Hall of Famer Len Dawson to become the Chiefs’ all-time leader in touchdown passes.  The record-breaking play came in the second quarter when Mahomes connected with Justin Watson in the end zone, giving the Chiefs a 10-3 halftime lead.

The 29-year-old has already solidified himself as one of the greatest players in Kansas City history. Alongside leading the franchise in passing yards, Mahomes is just nine wins away from surpassing Dawson as the Chiefs’ all-time winningest quarterback.  The Chiefs, now 11-1, continue their quest for a third straight Super Bowl as the season heads toward its critical stages. Their next game is on Sunday, December 8, hosting the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
