Trump reaches out to Savannah Guthrie in moving phone call as Today star faces nightmare abduction of mom Nancy
PRESIDENT Donald Trump followed through on his promise and reached out to Today Show anchor Savannah Guthrie to show his support after her mother’s abduction this week.
Trump shared kind words with the star journalist whose been praying for answers and peace in the disappearance of her elderly mother Nancy.
At the end of NBC News’ Special Report on Wednesday, anchor Tom Llamas confirmed Trump’s call.
He told viewers: “We also want to mention, after our interview, the president called Savannah Guthrie and spoke to her, offering words of support for her and her family as they search for her mother.”
Trump told Savannah they are utilizing every available federal resource to help with the investigation and noted he knows she is very close with Nancy, according to the anchor.
The Today host thanked the president for his kind words and insisted she and her family needed prayers now more than ever.
The call came after Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday that he planned to call Savannah “later on” and called the situation “terrible.” “I always got along very good with Savannah,” Trump said.
Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie, 84, went missing from her home between Saturday, January 31st and Sunday, February 1st, 2026.
NO SUSPECTS
The mystery surrounding Nancy’s disappearance is deepening as officials admit they currently have no suspects and are lacking strong leads.
In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department reiterated that no person of interest has been identified, despite “hundreds of tips” and the ongoing assistance of the FBI.
MOM’S LAST MOVES
Nancy spent Saturday evening with her daughter, Annie Guthrie, and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni.
According to Sheriff Chris Nanos, Cioni dropped the 84-year-old off at her Catalina Foothills residence at approximately 9:45 pm and watched her enter safely before returning to his own home nearby.
The following morning, a member of Nancy’s church contacted her family when she failed to appear for the service.
After rushing to her property and finding no sign of her, terrified family members alerted authorities at 12:15 pm on Sunday.
Sheriff Nanos has repeatedly stressed that Nancy’s life is in immediate danger; she has limited mobility and requires vital daily medication that could be fatal if missed for more than 48 hours.
He has pleaded with the Tucson community to review all residential surveillance footage for any suspicious activity from that Saturday night.
HAUNTING SCENE
Eerie images have surfaced showing a trail of what appears to be blood leading from the front door of the $1 million property to the edge of the driveway.
Furthermore, investigators confirmed a security camera was likely ripped from the exterior of the house, leaving an empty bracket where a Ring doorbell once sat.
While the motive remains unclear, the investigation has taken a dramatic turn after multiple news outlets reported receiving unverified ransom notes.
These messages reportedly demanded a substantial amount of Bitcoin and included specific, unpublished details about the home and Nancy’s clothing to prove the sender’s knowledge. While the Sheriff’s Department is taking these notes seriously, they have not yet confirmed their legitimacy.
