Patrick Mahomes breaks his silence on Instagram after the Chiefs’ playoff exit
On Sunday, January 4, the Kansas City Chiefs faced the Las Vegas Raiders and lost 14-12, racking up their sixth consecutive defeat and finishing with a 6-11 record.
Andy Reid’s team thus concluded a forgettable regular season, in which they also lost Patrick Mahomes and were eliminated from the playoffs. Now, the team’s QB has broken his silence.
Mahomes shares a post on Instagram
Kansas City missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014 after losing Week 15 to the Los Angeles Chargers 13-16. It was in this same game that the 30-year-old quarterback had to be taken off the field after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the final two minutes of the game.
Although he underwent successful surgery the following day, Monday, December 15, he is expected to be out for 9 to 12 months. This means that Patrick has had to end his 2025 season, where, in addition to fighting for another Super Bowl, he hoped to be among the candidates for the league’s MVP.
However, the QB remained close to the team despite his injury, even on social media, where he reacted to his teammates’ plays. However, on Tuesday, January 6, Mahomes shared two photos wearing the Chiefs uniform on his official Instagram account, something he hadn’t done since November 8, although he had shared other posts with his family in December.
In the first one, he is seen with his head down, while in the second, Mahomes is in full action with the ball in his hands. Although he did not accompany the photos with words in the description, he did add a clock emoji, something he had already done in other posts, but which takes on new meaning in light of his extensive recovery.
In the comments, his brother Jackson and his wife, Brittany, left comments with heart emojis as a show of support, as did the team’s official account.
Fans also didn’t hesitate to dedicate a few words to their QB: “Biggest comeback of all-time, book it!” wrote one of them. “Take my ACL goat I don’t need it,” said another humorously. “The return will be glorious,” encouraged a third follower. “Can’t wait to have the [goat emoji] back next season,” commented another user.
Meanwhile, the two-time NFL Most Valuable Player finished the 2025 season with 3,587 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 14 games.
Mahomes is expected to be ready to return to the field for the start of the 2026 season in September, although everything will depend on the progress of his recovery.
