Troubling Travis Kelce Issue Emerges During Chiefs’ Game Against Commanders
Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs eye a third-consecutive win in Week 8 of the 2025 NFL season when Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders came to Arrowhead Stadium for “Monday Night Football.” Kelce, seven games into his 13th season with the Chiefs, has played well despite his 36-year-old age, tallying 31 catches for 375 yards and two touchdowns.
With 13 minutes and nine seconds remaining in the third quarter, Kansas City found itself in Washington territory. On 3rd-and-4, Mahomes attempted to hit a wide-open Kelce for an easy first down before the ball bounced off the tight end’s hands, landing into the arms of Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner.
This marked Mahomes’ second interception of the game, with the first coming on Kansas City’s opening drive, picked off by Marshon Lattimore. It was also Mahomes’ fourth interception of the season, and notably, half of them have come on passes that bounced off Kelce’s hands.
Kelce made the same mistake in the Week 2 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, dropping a potential touchdown pass that was intercepted by safety Andrew Mukuba. He now has four drops on the season, tied for the fifth-most in the NFL and the most on the Chiefs’ roster. Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. has the most drops in the league with nine.
“Patrick Mahomes now has thrown four interceptions this year,” KCTV5’s Mark Poulose wrote on X. “Two of them should have been COMPLETED PASSES to Travis Kelce.”

While Kelce has had his struggles in his 13th season, the former Cincinnati Bearcats tight end has stepped up as a receiver in recent weeks. Over his last four games prior to Monday, he’s caught 21-of-23 targets, a 91.3% catch rate.
Up next for Kelce and the Chiefs, a Week 9 battle on the road agaisnt the Buffalo Bills.
