Travis Kelce hints at NFL retirement after Chiefs’ win over Commanders

Once again, the Kansas City Chiefs, led by Patrick Mahomes, made a statement in prime time, and on Monday Night Football, they ended up crushing the Washington Commanders 28-7, improving to a 5-3 record and remaining in third place in the AFC West. Still, the Chiefs have won five of their last six games.

Despite starting with a couple of interceptions, Patrick Mahomes proved why he is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, finishing the night with 299 passing yards and three touchdowns. The Texas Tech alum orchestrated the Chiefs’ victory, particularly by scoring 21 unanswered points against Washington.

There’s no doubt that the Chiefs are currently the most feared team in the NFL, especially with Mahomes continuing his march toward MVP honors. Nowadays, no team wants to face these Chiefs, even though Daniel Jones’ Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots hold the best records in the AFC.

Travis Kelce’s performance and retirement hints

Even though Travis Kelce was directly responsible for one of Mahomes’ interceptions, he still had his best game of the season. In that play, Kelce failed to control the ball, which slipped from his hands and ended up in Bobby Wagner’s hands. Despite this costly error, Kelce quickly bounced back.

After finishing the game with a touchdown and 99 receiving yards, Kelce appeared on ESPN and mentioned that he will continue enjoying these games while he can, subtly leaving the door open for a possible retirement after this season: “We’re cherishing every single one of these games, not knowing how long we’ll be able to do this.”

In terms of statistics, Kelce had his best performance of the year on Monday Night Football, nearly reaching 100 receiving yards, and, most importantly, recovered from his earlier mistake that led to Mahomes’ interception.

The Chiefs’ next game promises to be one of the most exciting of the week: another showdown between Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. Kansas City will visit the Buffalo Bills in Week 9 of the NFL. There’s no doubt this game could be a key moment in determining this season’s MVP.
