Not even Mahomes is safe on NBA illegal gambling scheme: The 10-year-old tweet Tyreek Hill used to troll his former teammate
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, decided to have some fun at the expense of his former Kansas City Chiefs teammate, Patrick Mahomes. Amid the ongoing scandal involving illegal betting that has shaken the sports world, Hill found the perfect opportunity to tease Mahomes over a decade-old tweet.
The controversy began after the arrest of former Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups, ex-player and now Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Damon Jones, and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier, all accused of participating in illegal gambling activities. In the wake of these shocking revelations, Hill unearthed an old post by Mahomes that resurfaced at the most ironic time possible.

Patrick Mahomes’ tweet that resurfaced after ten years
Back in 2015, Patrick Mahomes, then a 20-year-old college quarterback at Texas Tech, posted a single word on social media that at the time went largely unnoticed. But now, ten years later, that same word carries a very different tone amid the current betting controversy shaking the NBA.
“Bet“.
That was all Mahomes wrote. The word, harmless in its original context, suddenly feels loaded in light of recent scandals. Tyreek Hill, always known for his sense of humor and social media savvy, took notice of the old tweet and couldn’t resist the urge to bring it back to life.

The Dolphins receiver quoted Mahomes’ post and filled it with several smiling-face emojis, playfully hinting at the coincidence. Given the timing, fans quickly caught on, flooding Hill’s comments section with laughing reactions and memes about the resurfaced tweet.
Tyreek Hill and Patrick Mahomes’ years together in Kansas City
Hill and Mahomes shared five successful seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, forming one of the most explosive quarterback-receiver duos in the NFL. However, Hill decided to leave Kansas City in 2021, believing that his role had diminished as Mahomes’ connection with tight end Travis Kelce deepened.
The trade sent Hill to the Miami Dolphins, where he continued to dominate as one of the league’s fastest and most dangerous receivers. Unfortunately, his recent knee injury has sidelined him for the remainder of the season, and there is growing uncertainty about whether he will ever return to the field.

In a recent interview, Hill opened up about his mindset regarding his future in football.
I feel like that decision is all based upon how I feel and where my mindset is at the moment… Like right now, I’m happy. I’m happy being with my kids. I’m happy with the career that I’ve had.
