Patrick Mahomes, Brittany Mahomes Receive Historic News Away From Football

Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes is coming off a strong performance in Monday’s Week 5 loss to Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, despite the two-time All-Pro MVP logging 29-of-41 passes for 318 yards and one touchdown, as well as 60 yards and a rushing TD on six carries, the Chiefs still suffered a tough 31-28 defeat, marking their third loss of the season.
Mahomes and Co. will want to get back to winning ways on Sunday when they return to action in a home game against Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions. Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, has already attended games at Arrowhead Stadium this season, and the 30-year-old mom-of-three could be back cheering for her man come Sunday.
Brittany Mahomes was supporting a different team on Saturday, though. She was at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City to cheer on the KC Current in their game against Gotham FC.
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes are part-owners of the KC Current. Brittany Mahomes was a central figure when the Current was established as an expansion team for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in 2020. Three years later, Patrick Mahomes followed suit by joining the club’s ownership group, making him the first active NFL player to own equity in an NWSL team.
“I am thankful for the chance to join my wife as part of the Kansas City Current’s ownership team,” Patrick Mahomes said in January 2023. “Brittany and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization. I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”
On Saturday, Brittany Mahomes took to Instagram to share a video from CPKC Stadium as she watched her team in action.
“LETS GOOOOOOO @kccurrent” she captioned her video.

Much to her delight, the Current secured a 2-0 win against Gotham FC. Forward Bia Zaneratto opened the scoring for KC in the 34th minute. Temwa Chawinga doubled the lead at the 51st minute, shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute.
This wasn’t just any win for KC, either. Apart from the fact that they increased their lead over the second-placed Washington Spirit at the top of the NWSL table by 19 points with two more matches left to play, the Current also made history in Saturday’s victory.
KC now has 62 points, which has eclipsed the previous record set by the Orlando Pride last year for the most points in a single season.
The Current can further increase the record to as many as 68 points if they win their last two games (each victory counts as 3 points) against the 10th-placed Houston Dash and the 8th-seeded San Diego Wave.
This is the latest bit of historic news that Patrick and Brittany Mahomes have received from their NWSL team. Earlier this season, the Current secured the NWSL Shield —the title awarded to the team with the best regular-season record —after just 21 games in the 26-game campaign. This marked the fastest team to clinch the NWSL Shield in league history.
After the Current’s big day on Saturday, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes will now turn their full attention to the Chiefs’ Week 6 matchup against the Lions. Patrick Mahomes and Co. are 2-3 on the season and are looking to re-establish themselves as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this year. A victory against the 4-1 Lions will be a step in the right direction.
