Victory is sweet, regardless of if it comes in the most beautiful or ugliest of ways. But with Nick Sirianni’s Eagles in Philadelphia, there’s a clear preference for beautiful victories, especially after the ugly win on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

During his press conference, Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts, affirmed what was in the minds of all Philadelphia fans after the game, and that’s the danger of not playing up to the team’s standard in the first half, and then, having to come back from difficult situations. Head coach Nick Sirianni was then asked for his comments on Hurt’s claims and he couldn’t agree more.

After the game, Jalen Hurts confessed how proud he was of the team, explaining how they’ve been able to show the stuff they’re made of in very different situations. Sometimes, the Eagles have won games due to their defensive prowess, while at other times, their offensive brilliance has earned them victories. And when it comes to times like this, they’ve shown their ability to escape tough, ugly situations.

“That’s what I’m very proud of.” Hurts said. “I think a win like this is encouraging, but it also lights a fire under everybody to strive for the level of execution that we want. We talk about playing for a standard. The standard isn’t to produce or to have these numbers or certain statistics, it is to execute whatever we’re asked to do. I don’t think we did that in the first half.

I think we kind of changed our approach in the second half and that definitely helped us weather throughout the game and make plays the way we did. But it’s about execution in this game and the way I learned football from Coach Saban (Former Alabama HC), it’s about playing to a standard. We play to win. We also play to a standard and so we can’t lose sight of what that is given all the things that we’ve been able to do over time.”

In his video conference on Monday, Nick Sirianni was asked about Hurt’s comments on the team’s first half performance, if he assessed the game the same way the Super Bowl LIX MVP did, and his sentiments were hardly any different from those of his star player.

“We have to be in this mode of attacking, and that’s what our mindset was,” said the Eagles’ head coach. “Obviously, the first half didn’t play out that way for multiple different reasons. But I think that’s, you guys can ask them, but I think that’s what Jalen’s saying there.”

Emphasizing the need to always win beautifully, Sirianni admitted it’s impossible for the team to win consistently if they keep pursuing comebacks after putting in that kind of display in subsequent first halves. In fact, he had given the team a notice after the game that all celebrations regarding the Rams win ended on Sunday, while they were going to face reality and fix whatever went wrong in the first half of the game,

“I just saw our guys continue to fight over and over again. Now again, we have a lot to clean up. Like we can’t play that way and win consistently. So, we got in there Monday, that was the mood of the whole thing, right? And I told you guys this. Yeah, we’re going to celebrate like crazy on Sunday, but tomorrow we’re going to tell each other the truth and get back at it. That’s what Monday was all about.” (Via Sports Illustrated)

Next up, the Eagles face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, with the hopes of playing to the team’s standard and earning a beautiful victory for themselves.
