DeVonta Smith and his fiancée step up to lift the spirits of an Eagles fan fighting cancer

Sometimes, we come across stories relating to the Philadelphia Eagles, and they absolutely must be told. Sometimes, we can talk about statistics and contracts so often that we forget these are real people. That’s why stories like these matter so much. This is an organization full of good people with massive hearts.
That’s true of chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie. That’s true of the players on the roster and their philanthropic efforts. Did you hear what DeVonta Smith and his fiancée, Mya Danielle, did recently?
DeVonta Smith and his fiancée, Mya Danielle, provide some sunshine for an Eagles fan battling cancer.
An Eagles fan who is unfortunately battling cancer received the surprise of a lifetime, one she won’t ever forget. Pat Schmus of Mullica Hill, New Jersey, is a huge Birds fan, and one of the team’s stars thought it would be appropriate to provide a little sunshine.
DeVonta Smith is Schmus’s favorite player. Per 6ABC’s action news team, she has always been impressed by Smith because, in her words, “He’s not flashy, but he does such a good job!” Well said… There isn’t an Eagles fan walking who would disagree with the sentiment.
Schmus, a retired school teacher, has been receiving treatment for stage four ovarian cancer. 6ABC reports that Theresa Schmus, Pat’s daughter, sent a direct message to Smith’s fiancée, Mya Danielle, on TikTok.
Danielle responded in less than 30 minutes. The two young ladies connected, spoke, and a gift from Smith was the result. Danielle purchased the jersey herself, asked DeVonta to sign it, and personally delivered it.
“I couldn’t believe someone would take the time out of their day to do that for someone they don’t know,” Theresa said. Schmus posted a video to TikTok where she walked into her mother’s hospital room with a gift bag containing the signed jersey.
Hearing or reading stories like these makes it difficult to discuss a Brotherly Shove or roster concerns. Again, these are the types of tales that we should share much more often.
It never seems to get old. Seeing so many great guys on this Eagles team reminds us constantly of why we’re fans. Consider this our tip of the cap to DeVonta Smith and his beautiful bride-to-be. This is an excellent job indeed by two extraordinary people.
