Chicago Sky coach Tyler Marsh didn’t exactly give fans much hope that forward Angel Reese will be back with the team next season after she was recently critical of the organization.

After Reese publicly called out the franchise and some of her teammates amidst her second losing season in an interview, the Sky quickly suspended her for half a game for making “statements detrimental to the team.”

Reese hasn’t played since that suspension, with the team saying she’s been sidelined with a back injury. However, the suspension might have been a bridge too far. It’s hard not to wonder if her sitting out is her decision.

Speculation about her future with Chicago isn’t going to settle any time soon because of her critical comments and the team’s harsh reaction to them. Her being traded in the offseason feels as possible as it ever has. Marsh didn’t really quell those murmurs on Thursday night, either.

Per Fox 32 News’ Chris Kwiecinski, Marsh was asked if Reese has a future with the team. His response? “Sure.”

Weeeeelp.

Look, that is technically a positive answer, but it’s so blunt and unconvincing that it’s hard to read it as anything but shaky as to whether or not Reese will actually be back in Chicago next year. Will she even want to be?

Nothing is impossible, and Reese and the Sky could always find common ground. However, this is sports, and star players get traded all the time when relationships erode. Reese could be the next Chicago player out the door.
