Kansas City’s Union Station Lights Up to Honor Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s Engagement

“We are so excited to celebrate this magical new era with you!” read the landmark’s Instagram caption. Even Kansas City’s landmarks are getting in on the engagement celebrations for Taylor Swift and Chiefs pro Travis Kelce.
The Missouri city’s historical Union Station lit up in colors honoring the couple on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 26, following their big news earlier that day that they had gotten engaged.
Alongside a collection of photos showcasing the light display — which also included the projections “Taylor Swift” in the singer’s handwriting, Kelce’s jersey number (“#87”) and the letters “KC” next to a red heart — the caption read, “Congratulations, Travis and Taylor! We are so excited to celebrate this magical new era with you!”
“Tonight, the (Chiefs) Kingdom lights shine for you, as Union Station features a special celebratory lighting display of Orange and Mint coming together with Red and Gold,” the caption added.
Swift and Kelce, both 35, announced their engagement in a joint post on Instagram alongside several photos from their floral-filled garden proposal on Tuesday.
The first photo featured the Chiefs tight end down on bended knee as Swift lovingly rested one hand on his face. Other shots showed the pair embracing and sitting on a bench underneath a pink-and-white floral trellis.
Kelce proposed with a ring he designed with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry. The dazzling stone is an “old mine brilliant cut,” which Swift showed off in a series of photos announcing the big news.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” the “So High School” singer wrote in the caption.
Fans, friends, family and fellow celebrities alike shared their excitement over Kelce and Swift’s engagement on Tuesday — even Swift’s ex Taylor Lautner, who reposted a celebratory carousel to his Instagram account that was first shared by the NFL.
Jason Kelce also gave the pair a special shoutout on the latest episode of the Kelce brothers’ podcast, New Heights, which was released on Wednesday.
“He is not here to address this himself, but we felt it necessary as a team here at New Heights to get together and send Travis and Taylor a giant congratulations for being engaged! The proposal heard ‘round the world,” said Jason, 37.
In an interview with News 5, the groom-to-be’s dad, Ed Kelce, revealed that the proposal took place “maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago” at his son’s home.
“[Travis] was going to put it off ’til this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off ’til this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” said Ed. “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
Ed added, “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine…’ They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful.”
