Patrick Mahomes reacts to the unexpected retirement of one of the Kansas City Chiefs’ stars

Patrick Mahomes is the king of social media reactions. Whenever the opportunity arises, he’s one of the athletes who consistently comments, responds, and shares his opinions in the virtual world, and it was practically inevitable that he’d react to the retirement of a major Kansas City Chiefs figure.  Although this figure’s impact extends beyond the field, the team’s superstar dedicated a message that says it all.

Mahomes’ reaction to the retirement of a Chiefs icon

With a goat emoji, alluding to “The GOAT” (Greatest of All Time), Patrick Mahomes bid farewell to Dan Meers, who had portrayed “KC Wolf” since 1990. This character, the official mascot of the Kansas City Chiefs, was even the first to be inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame.

Before joining the Chiefs, Meers served as the mascot for the St. Louis Cardinals in Major League Baseball. Prior to that, he was “Truman the Tiger” at the University of Missouri, where he graduated in 1990.

The Chiefs are one of those franchises that don’t need a mascot for promotion. In fact, they could be called the current NFL dynasty, with three Super Bowls in the last six seasons, hoping to add another.  NFL star Mahomes and the Chiefs finished last season with a 15-2 record, aiming to become the first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. However, in the big game, they suffered a painful 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

An upcoming season looms where they’ll seek revenge and a return to the Super Bowl, but they’ll now attempt it without their iconic mascot, who has said goodbye.
